Katherine's obituary

Beloved sister, daughter and friend, Katherine Crosmer, passed away on July 5, 2020. Kate lost her battle to colon cancer in the same hospital she was born in, in Orange California.
Kate was an inspiration to many. She was an avid student of archaeology, history, literature and the arts. She earned an BA in Archaeology and Culture of the Ancient Near East from Lycoming College in 2010, and earned an MA in Cultural Heritage and Preservation at Rutgers University-Newark in 2015. She furthered her education during an internship at BLM Anasazi Heritage Center in Dolores Colorado in 2015. She worked for a variety of companies in the fields of museums studies and cultural resource management, including the Bowers Museum and Chamber Group, Inc. Her hard work, dedication and creativity were rewarded in 2018 when she started her dream job as an archaeologist with the Bureau of Land Management. Kate fit into her education and career so perfectly because her love for history and nature was a part of her personality.
Along with her scholarly interests, Kate loved to travel. She adventured on two cross-country trips, driving back and forth from California to New Jersey. She traveled for leisure throughout the US and internationally, and also, traveled for work. Notably, she joined archaeology projects in Alaska and Russia. When she could, she brought a friend to tag along on her adventures, but was never afraid or discouraged in journeying alone. Her beautiful photographs were an envy and revelation to all her friends on social media. Through her photographs she inspired real wonder and awe within others.
Overall, Kate was a free spirit and true animal lover. For many years, she was a member of the San Diego Zoo and would frequently visit. She would sit for hours, waiting patiently for the perfect shot of one animal or another. Luckily, her patience was often rewarded. It was at the zoo that she experienced peace and contentment.
In lieu of a service, the family and friends of Kate Crosmer created a gofundme page to set up a memorial at her favorite spot, the San Diego Zoo.
