i moved to NY from Phoenix and to me, "the hill" was small; it was quaint; it was beautiful; but it wasn't big enough for me. to katey, it was perfect. it was home. it was enough.

katey loved tim. he seemed to sweep her off her feet and ingratiated himself in the family amazingly well. i think katey would have scared off a lesser man - not Tim. it was amazing to me - katey had such a confident swagger about her that scared off other men - not Tim. he gave her the space to be herself and do her thing but also provided a sense of security and love that she needed.

katey loved her animals. she loved luna, blue, yodi. she adopted blue when she worked at the animal shelter because she was told that blue had two weeks to live and she didn't think it right that blue pass in the shelter. so she brought her to the big house and that damn cat lived forever it seemed. we used to joke about the lie blue told about her health just so someone would adopt her. she was a great cat. luna was no different and katey loved that i was able to rescue her off the house when she got out. and then there's the dog. "I always wanted a pug" was what she told me. yodi and i initially did not get along super well until we spent hours watching junk television together. it was katey's desire to help others have a quality life that saw our little house turn into a makeshift shelter for those animals.

katey had an incredible fearlessness and seemed to want to explore everything this world had to offer from different experiences (trips to the city) to friendships, jobs, living different places, etc. that being said, she always balanced that with a beautiful sense of home. this is a testament to her parents creating the ability for katey to always return home. this allowed katey to test the waters of what was possible on her terms. that was the way katey did things.

katey was a beautiful human being. i imagine Grandma Gracie is giving her the lay of the land up in heaven and she's looking down on us telling me that i'm looking older than when she last saw me, when did my hair get so gray, my wife married down, etc. she'd say that with that silly smirk though that would cause me to say something like "you know what, i'm your elder little miss, you're supposed to respect me." she'd probably counter with something like "you're everyone's elder" and we'd laugh.

the last text exchange we shared late January 2026, i asked how she was doing. "Lol not great." trying to keep it somewhat light, i said "How's my dog?" she shared pics of Yodi being Yodi. she followed up with a beautiful video of Maeve captioned "Zoom work calls." we laughed about Debbie (apparently the person Maeve was talking to on the Zoom calls) and her demands.

katey loved being a mother. she was tough as nails to everyone else but once you got in her circle like her animals, her family, her husband, and her daughter were, you were in. and that was a special place to be.

you'll be missed KB. until next time...

My sympathy for your loss.  Katey had the best smile.  She was always happy when I saw her.  She was a strong person, selfless and kind.

Prayers for Ken, Kathy, Tim and Maeve.  May you hold the memories deep in your heart.

Love to you all.

Heart felt sorrow for all the families that are going through this emotional journey. God Bless. Love Ron and Linda

Love you forever Katey. You were such a bright light and you had my most favorite laugh of anyone I’ve ever met. I loved working with you and most of all laughing with you. I’ll miss you forever. 🩵

I am so deeply sorry for your loss Tim, Maeve and Katey’s family/loved ones. It was the purest honor getting to know Katey over the last 3 years and getting to call her my friend. She was an incredible mentor and person as a whole!
