Kate Barney was born September 21st 1938 in New Jersey to the late Ray and Hattie Bell Holland, Sr. Kate transitioned from this earth to eternity at age 84 on July 2, 2023 at Moses Cone Hospital. She attended Orange and Montclair Public Schools and got married to the late Charles Barney Sr. on October 22nd 1957, and of this union 7 children were born.

Kate was her preceded in death by her parents, her only brother Ray Holland Jr., her two sons James Darnell Barney, Charles Robert Barney Jr., and her late husband.

In years past, she worked in the manufacturing industry with companies such as Orange Products, Art Meadows, and Shamrock. She also worked in the retail industry for Harris Teeter and BP gas station.

Kate was a beautiful intelligent talented and strong woman. She was a true fashionista from head to toe. She loved shopping, solving crossword puzzles, playing card games, listening to good music, watching good movies, and collecting angels and elephants. She was artistic in many ways. She could sing, dance, draw, crotchet you just about anything, and her penmanship was out of this world! Some of her favorite things were baked goods, seafood, cold cereal with fruit in it, Sierra Mist soda and hard ice cream. Everyone she met just loved her. She had a beautiful smile, but one thing about Kate Barney was she was FAMOUS for HER LAUGH.

She leaves to cherish her dear memories to her children, Mark Holland, Rita (Jimmy) Hightower, Hattie (Robert) Hammond, Raymond Barney, and Rose (Johnnie) Hall, her 17 Grandchildren, 18 Great-Grandchildren, and a host of other treasured family and friends.
