In loving memory of Karyn "Kary" Sheila Langenfeld (née Bye), 56, who peacefully passed away at her home in Princeton, MN on July 7, 2024, surrounded by family. Born on June 14, 1968, in Milwaukee, WI, Kary's life was a testament to love, determination, and unwavering strength.
Kary graduated from Rufus King High School in Milwaukee in 1986 and pursued higher education at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where fate brought her together with Marty Langenfeld. What began as a study partnership blossomed into an enduring relationship, leading to their marriage on June 20, 1992.
After earning her BS in Medical Technology, Kary embarked on a fulfilling career in Billings, MT, where she and Marty welcomed their cherished children, Nicholas (1995) and Katie (2001). In 2002, they settled in Princeton, MN, where Kary continued her career at the Princeton Fairview Northland Medical Center, eventually assuming a management role and earning her master’s degree in organizational leadership. Her dedication to healthcare spanned 22 years with Fairview.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Kary's life was characterized by vibrant personal passions. She found solace in the outdoors through activities like running, skiing, and snowshoeing. A gifted quilter and cross-stitcher, Kary's boundless creativity earned her accolades, including a coveted blue ribbon and recognition on her beloved FlossTube. Known for her special talent in piecing together perfectly coordinating fabrics, Kary also cherished spending memorable evenings and embarking on adventures with her squad, often exploring new quilt and cross-stitch shops—an expression of her zest for life and boundless enthusiasm.
In October 2013, Kary confronted a breast cancer diagnosis with extraordinary courage and resilience, becoming a beacon of strength for everyone around her. She tackled cancer as a challenge to be surmounted, refusing to let it diminish her adventurous spirit and independence. Her legacy of integrity, and unwavering courage will continue to inspire all who were privileged to know her.
Kary is survived by Marty, her husband of 32 years; her loving children, Nicholas and Katie; her brother, Kevin (Marie) Bye; stepmother, Barbara Bye; stepbrother, Paul (Vina) Stillwell; stepsister, Becky (Mike) Sameck; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Bye; mother, Patricia Gilane; and stepfather, Robert Gilane.
Kary Langenfeld will be fondly remembered for her dedication to healthcare, her devotion as a wife and mother, and her steadfast friendship. Her warm smile, kindness, and zest for life touched countless hearts and will be deeply missed.
