Karol's obituary
Karol passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on November 30, 2024.
Karol was born to Robert and Myrtle MacKenzie in Cleveland, Ohio on October 16, 1938. She was preceded in death by her parents, her younger brother Kenneth MacKenzie and her husband of 60 years Jerry Moffitt. She is survived by her four children: Nancy (John) Fripp, John (Sarah) Moffitt, Linda (Robert) Beres, and Stephaine (Jeff) Cesal. Her Seven grandchildren: Katy (Jonathan) Schwartz, Hannah (John Paul) Coppola, Harrison (Jasmine) Fripp, Amanda (Jean) Puccini, Lindsey (Aydan) Friel, Sophia (Chris) Brown, and Benjamin Pantapas. Her two great grandchildren: Jack and Miles Fripp.
Karol grew up in South Euclid, Ohio and after graduation went on to Muskingum College. It was there that she met Jerry Moffitt. He was instantly attracted by her adventurous spirit and beautiful smile. She would always tease that she knew they would have beautiful children together. They were married on July 20, 1957 and their adventure began.
Karol had an inquisitive mind and a love for the Bible. During her High School years she and her good friend Kay would visit local Bible Study groups in search of Bible truth. After giving birth to her first daughter Nancy, Karol again looked for answers to her many Bible questions. She and Jerry decided to attend a meeting of Jehovah's Witnesses at the Kingdom Hall in Marion, Ohio. She was excited to get satisfying answers from the Bible. Together Jerry and Karol were baptized as Jehovah's Witnesses on October 24, 1959.
Two years later Jerry and Karol built their home on an old orchard in Chesterland. It was the perfect setting to raise their growing family. Their home soon became a hub of activity. Many memories of family and congregation activities were shared there. Together with Jerry's love of sports, fun loving spirit and Karol's interest in others and creativity they wove a life together filled with love, laughter and adventure.
In the summer of 1973, the family moved to St. Petersburg, Florida so Karol could be closer to her parents now living in Sarasota. Jerry's parents soon followed. The family grew when Stephanie was born. Once again their home was central to years of friends and family gathering together.
Many will remember Karol's love for teaching Bible truths. She instilled this love in all of her children by taking them with her, teaching them by both word and example. To this day those memories are cherished by them. Karol also loved to sew making many of her family's outfits through the years. After retiring from her job at Florida Federal Karol had more time to devote to these activities even adding quilting to her skills. She made it her goal to make each of her grandchildren a personalized quilt.
We all look forward to the time when we will see Karol enjoying life forever in the coming paradise. (Isaiah 65:17, 21-25; Matthew 5:5) In one of her final conversations, she related how she looks forward giving all of her grandchildren a big hug at that time. They look forward to receiving those hugs as do we all.
