Karol's obituary

Karol Ann Mitchell (Michel), age 85, of Millington went to be with our Lord and Savior the afternoon of Monday, December 18, 2023 at Covenant Medical Center Cooper in Saginaw. Karol was born January 21,1938 in Clio, Michigan to the late Karl and Beulah (Farr) Michel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Mitchell and son, Ron Mitchell.

Karol was an incredible woman with a heart much larger than her body. She loved you without conditions, accepted you without hesitation, rescued you without questions, and supported you without reservation. Karol radiated and personified hospitality, always ready to share a place at her table and in her heart. Strangers became ‘family’ with her gift for making everyone feel comfortable, at ease and welcome. Karol was known for many things, being a daughter, wife, sister, Mom, Grandma, and friend, but mostly she was known for her immense capacity to welcome the world into her life and heart.

Karol was married to Louis Mitchell on October 19, 1957. Together, Karol and Louis raised four children: Ron Mitchell, Larry (Sharon) Mitchell, Tamara (Bill) Morales, and Anngie Mitchell. They also opened their hearts to another son, Chuck (Debbie) Green. Through the years that family grew to include grandchildren: Christopher (Kaylee) Mitchell, Shaylee Mitchell, Brandon (Jayne) Mitchell, Scott (Danielle) Stiegemeier, Ashley (Billy) Bennett, Kennedy McGill, Madison McGill, great grand-children: Bailey, Joseph, Jacob, Ashanta, Savannah, Raylan, Emily, Isabella, Abigail, Abe and Baby Reagan who will be here soon, siblings: Karl Michel Jr., Faith Chapman, David Michel, many extended family members, and her precious dog Melody. If you had the honor of knowing her, you undoubtedly were on the receiving end of her love, unparalleled generosity and most definitely a cookie or two, along with a plate to take home..

Regardless of the size of her home, even filled to capacity - Karol always insisted there was room for more, whether that was a friend or family member that was in need of a place to rest their head, or the nearly 16 years of foster children that found a safe haven in their home. No one was ever turned away. Along with a place to rest, Karol believed that true family was forged around a table that was always filled with games of Skip-Bo, homemade breads, cinnamon rolls, cookies and beautifully decorated cakes.

Karol was a gifted lifelong musician. Recognized by the high school band leader in Clio she was called up to the HS band while in Junior High. She filled the world with music from the accordion, alto saxophone, and organ, but her true gifts lay in the ivory keys of the piano. When her fingers skimmed the keys of the piano it was as if they had their own special bond and became extensions of one another. The music that flowed through the air with her behind the piano can only be described as ethereal. At the young age of 12 she shared this gift as pianist at her church, a role she continued until the near end of her life.

Visitation will be held at Fellowship Baptist Church on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at 10:00am with service starting at 11:00am, Followed by a luncheon in the church fellowship hall. 14046 N Saginaw Rd, Clio, MI 48420.
