Karma's obituary
Karma Gardner Von Burg fought and completed her heroic battle against breast cancer at 11:11am Sunday, October 6, 2024, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York.
As a Dallas, TX native, Karma spent her formative years in Dallas and graduated from her beloved Greenhill School in Addison, TX. She was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan and loved everything Texas.
Karma’s intellect, creativity, and vibrance carried her far in her professional life. From an Ivy League education at the University of Pennsylvania to her first years of work in New York City, Karma excelled at everything she set out to accomplish. Her belief system prioritized work/life integration that evolved into her passion for music, art and culture. She parlayed those interests into a decorated career in brand marketing over the last three decades and yielded life-long friends at every professional stop along the way. Karma was the first leader of Culture Marketing for Red Bull North America where the work she crafted during her 13-year tenure there still informs the iconic, global brand’s cultural programming today. In more recent years, she leveraged her talents across industries - from entertainment to tech to automotive and consumer packaged goods – bringing cultural relevance to major Nestle brands like Nesquik and others over the last several years. Karma was a true New Yorker and an original Williamsburg, Brooklyn pioneer. She also covered major markets in Los Angeles, Miami, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Detroit, Chicago and other cultural hubs across the United States. Throughout her journey, she maintained close relationships in music-adjacent communities and built a lasting reputation for being one of the most trusted and authentic innovators between brands and content creators of all kinds, all genres.
Karma is survived by her mother, Lisa Hembry; niece, Gabrielle Gardner; great niece, Chy Noelle Lenoir; aunt, Karen Hembry PhD, all of Dallas, TX; and Philippe Von Burg of Zurich, Switzerland. She was predeceased by her brother, Mulele Joaquin Gardner; grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. W. A. Hembry all of Dallas, TX; Chuck Smith of Dallas, TX; and Ronald Gardner of Detroit, MI. Sincerest gratitude to "her sister from another mother", Amy Taylor of Los Angeles, CA; and cousin, John Punch of Denton, TX; and a host of family, friends and colleagues.
