Smitti's obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Karen "Smitti" Welton, who passed away on March 16, 2024. Born on February 9, 1955, Smitti lived a life full of joy, love, and unforgettable experiences.

Karen was better known to her friends and family as Smitti. She brought joy to all those who knew her with her vivacious personality, red hair, and the legacy of her spirit will forever be imprinted on the hearts of her loved ones. She was predeceased by her mother, Barbara Smith, her sister, Susie Smith and her step-son Matthew Welton.

Smitti was married to Hippie Welton in 1989, and their enduring bond of love brought forth a beautiful daughter, Cheyenne, on January 12, 1990. Their family was further blessed with a lovely granddaughter, Sydney Anatra, in 2020. The relationships she maintained with her family were the cornerstone of her life, and her love for them was immeasurable.

Smitti loved Chinese food, particularly from Gilbert's Chop Suey, and had a special place in her heart for iced tea. An avid sports fan, she proudly supported the Chicago Bears. These simple pleasures brought happiness to her life and her devotion to them was part of her charm.

Her husband Hippie Welton, daughter Cheyenne Anatra, and granddaughter Sydney Anatra survive Smitti along with her beloved first cousin Jim (Donna) Kearns - who grew up with Smitti and was more like a brother, and adored second cousins Crystal Kearns, Tawny Kearns and Jamie (Alisha) Cotton - which were more like nieces and a nephew. They grieve the loss of a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and cousin but take solace in the warmth of her memory.

Smitti's essence was one of warmth, love, and spirit. Her memory lives on in the hearts of all those she has touched. She will be dearly missed.
