Born on December 9, 1959, in Tucson, Arizona, Karen Storek died on January 21, 2024, in Chandler, Arizona, after battling ALS for over 20 years. A loving and beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend, Karen grew up in the sunshine of her cherished Tucson desert and spent idyllic summers on Cuttyhunk Island, Massachusetts, where her mother’s family had roots. I met Karen in 1988 when we were both young moms with businesses that revolved around children. We instantly became close friends, and our kids played together as we talked about well, everything. I fell in love with Karen's sense of humor, her great laugh, and boundless generosity of spirit. She infused her nonprofit, New Parents Network, with energy and innovation and successfully built it into a valuable community resource.
