It is with great sadness that the family of Karen Cecile Stone, 86 announce her passing on September 2, 2024, at Forsyth Hospital in Winston Salem, NC. In her final days and moments, she was surrounded by her loving daughters Cathy Adubato, JoEllen Fogle and Sharon Martinek.

Mrs. Stone was born August 29, 1938, in Essex County, New Jersey to Joseph and Eleanor McGrath. Karen was a long-time resident of Fairfield, NJ and then Hertford, NC before she and her husband of 66 years David moved closer to their daughters and settled into the Advance/Winston Salem areas in NC.

After raising her children Karen was the head librarian for many years at the Fairfield Public Library, then she moved on and spent several years working at West Essex Graphics and retired from working at Anderson Vreeland as a Purchasing Agent. Karen was an avid left-handed golfer and was very accomplished receiving awards for hole in ones. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband before his passing in February 2023. Karen also known as the social butterfly by her family she could be found playing cards, mahjongg and a host of other card games with her husband and many friends.

Karen was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years David W Stone and leaves behind her daughters Cathy Adubato, JoEllen Fogle (William), Sharon Martinek (Greg) and Janice Niemi (John) along with her loving grandchildren; Matt and Leann Adubato, Marc (Paige) and Kaitlyn Lucas, Jessica (Michelle), William and Bradley Martinek and John Niemi Jr, Joe Niemi (Tara) and Jenifer Arabia (Garrett). As well as her brother Doug McGrath and many other family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Karen’s name to St Jude, something that Karen and Dave supported for many years.

The family wishes to send a very special thank you to the staff at Forsyth Hospital for their enduring care and compassion.
