Karen's obituary
Born on January 11, 1944, in rural Pennsylvania to Casey and Helen (Levkulich) Kizas, Karen carried the values of resilience and wit with her from childhood through every chapter of her life. A proud graduate of Donora High School and Point Park University’s junior college in Pittsburgh, she spent most of her career with Warner & Swasey in Cleveland, OH, where her sharp mind and independent spirit shone.
Karen had a deep love for life’s journeys, both literal and metaphorical. After an amicable divorce from her first husband, she found a soulmate in her second, affectionately known as “Bobby Baby.” The two married in 1992 and spent the next three decades circling the globe and collecting memories and tchotchkes. Karen’s passion for adventure knew no bounds, and her stories - hilarious and usually a bit mischievous - will be retold for years to come.
Feisty, funny, and unapologetically herself, Karen was also a lifelong animal lover, often putting furry friends above formality. Her heart was big enough to embrace every creature, and her spirit was tough enough to face life with courage and humor.
Karen is predeceased by her parents and her beloved younger brother, Mark. She is survived by her devoted husband of 33 years, Bob Skodzinsky; step-children - Thomas, Matthew, Mark, and Robyn; step-grandchildren - Zach, Naomi, Lydia, Madison, Mackenzie, and Marlee; honorary niece, Katy; honorary nephew, Ryan; and numerous others who cherished her presence in their lives.
She lived boldly, loved fiercely, and leaves behind memories as colorful and remarkable as the life she led.
A celebration of Karen’s life will be held at a later date. In her honor, guests will be encouraged to bring a story, a bottle of champagne, or even a stray animal she might’ve snuck in.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a local animal shelter or wildlife rescue organization.
