It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Karen Nelson. Born on February 20, 1965, Karen left us all on July 24, 2023, leaving behind an indelible legacy of perseverance and love.
Karen is survived by her loving siblings, Jean (Nelson) Villa, Edward Nelson, and Wayne Nelson, who will forever cherish her memory. Her parents, Olive and Carl Nelson, as well as her sister, Carol (Nelson) Toscano, predeceased her, and we find solace in knowing that they have all been reunited.
Demonstrating a lifelong commitment to learning and personal growth, Karen graduated with an Associate Degree in Nursing from Rhode Island in 2013. Prior to that time she worked in several nursing homes caring for the elderly and disabled. Despite facing challenges, she never gave up on her educational pursuits, acting as a beacon of resilience and determination for those around her.
A fervent fan of Sunday football in her younger days, Karen found pleasure in the simple joys of life. Her love for reading children's books to her nieces and nephews, coupled with her extraordinary skills in baking cookies, pies, and brownies. That gave her happiness.
As a person, Karen personified kindness and love. Her role as a babysitter for her nieces and nephews was one she cherished, making Christmas a joyous occasion filled with togetherness and an abundance of gifts for the little ones. Despite the onset of mental illness later in her life, Karen's unwavering positivity and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Karen's life, though marked by challenges, bore testament to her undying spirit and kindness. Her greatest lesson to all was her perseverance - never giving up on education or her dreams of a career, despite the trials life threw her way. Remembered as a kind and loving individual, her memory will continue to inspire her family and all those who knew her. Karen will be greatly missed, but her legacy will live on in our hearts forever.
