Karen's obituary

Karen Lou (Schmidt) Montanye

Karen Montanye passed away on March 26, 2025 at her home in Pflugerville, Texas at the age of 80. She was born in May 1944 in Green Bay, Wisconsin and grew up in the Wrightstown/Greenleaf area. She was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Wrightstown on June 4, 1944, and was confirmed there on May 25, 1958. She graduated from Fox Valley Lutheran High School in 1962.

In 1999, she married the love of her life, Keith R. “Mizer” Montanye, and upon his retirement in 2015 they moved to Pflugerville, Texas. Together they enjoyed many road trips and travelling to visit family and friends, with sightseeing along the way. Karen enjoyed adding to her many collections (Coca-Cola, Barbie, stamps, postcards, just to name a few). She loved spending time with her five grandkids and made time to attend their special events. Because of her lifelong faith in Jesus as her Savior, by grace alone, we take comfort in knowing that she is now in heaven, happy and whole again.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert H. Schmidt and Erma (Scheibe) Conrad; her brothers Ralph Schmidt and Wayne Schmidt; and her son-in-law John Anklam. She is survived by her husband Keith Montanye; her son Troy Schmidt; daughter and son-in-law Brooke and Ralph Montaño; daughter Spring Anklam; granddaughters Dallas (Tucker) Toelke, Bailey Montaño, Aubrey Montaño and Bellamy Anklam; grandson Cody Montaño; stepsons Jason (Vicki) Montanye and David Montanye; brothers Gene (Jean) Schmidt and Lee Schmidt; sisters-in-law Elaine Schmidt and Ruth Schmidt; along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service in Wisconsin is being planned for this summer.

“If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”                ~Romans 10:9
