Karen's obituary

Karen Johnson, born December 13, 1944, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, happiness, and care. Warm-hearted Karen's personality radiated joy and tenderness, touching everyone who crossed her path. Her belief that everything happens for a reason and her mantra that patience yields sweet rewards became the pillars of wisdom she freely shared with all.

Karen's love for music knew no bounds, and her favorites were as diverse as her warm spirit. She adored the festive spirit of Christmas music, sharing many a carol with her beloved daughter, Elizabeth Petty. However, she could rock out to hard rock icons like Rob Zombie just as enthusiastically.

Karen cherished the simple pleasures of life. Her love for movies, shopping excursions to the $.99 store with her daughter, and her fondness for the color green painted vivid colors on the canvas of her life. A regular face at Asilomar and her youth group gatherings, Karen was a beloved member of her local community.

Karen's greatest pride and joy were her children. Elizabeth Petty, who survives her, and her late son, Jonathan Piña, were her crowning achievements. Grandson Chase Piña also survives Karen, ensuring her legacy continues for the next generation. Predeceased by her mother, Virginia Johnson; her father, Fred Johnson; and her brother, Dane Johnson, Karen now joins them in eternal rest.

For 35 remarkable years, Karen worked at St. Matthew’s, a commitment that she held dear. The void her absence leaves at St. Matthew’s, in her family, and in the local community is profound. Yet, her infectious warmth, caring spirit, and joyful laughter will continue to brighten the lives of those she left behind.

Karen's life was a testament to happiness, humor, and caring. Her story will continue to be told, her lessons shared, and her love felt. Karen has indeed left a big hole in our hearts, but her warmth will forever glow in our memories.
