Karen's obituary

Karen Dworek, 72, passed away unexpectedly surrounded by her loving family. Born in Sarnia Canada and raised in Lexington, Michigan, Karen carried with her a deep sense of gratitude, humility, and purpose that shaped every chapter of her life. She attended Eastern Michigan University, where she studied art, and showcased her natural born talent before meeting the love of her life, Jerry Dworek, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love, laughter, and shared values.

Karen devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family and God. She is survived by her son Tomas (Sam McCormick) and granddaughters Mallory, Megan, and Madison McCormick; and by her daughter Julie (Dylan Ellison) and grandchildren Nevaeh and Justin, each of whom she loved with a fierce and steady devotion. Her sisters — Sheila Fisher, Maureen (Glenn) Gordon, and Colleen (Brian) Deveau— along with many nieces and nephews, will forever carry her memory in their hearts.

She now joins in heaven her beloved husband Jerry, her parents Sue and Richard Fisher, and her siblings Rick Fisher II and Kathleen Fowler.

Karen had a profound love for nature. She believed the earth was a gift to be cared for, and she lived that belief every day. She despised littering and took pride in leaving every place better than she found it — whether it was a park trail, a family gathering, or a moment of someone’s life. Her resourcefulness was legendary: she repurposed, reused, and reimagined objects with creativity and purpose, turning simple things into something meaningful. She was frugal out of principle — valuing hard work, stewardship, and gratitude for what she had.
An artist and writer at heart, Karen expressed herself through creativity, humor, and a sharp wit. Her smile could brighten any room, and to know her, was truly a gift.

Karen’s life was a testament to quiet strength, deep faith, and the belief that small acts of care can change the world. Her legacy lives on in the family she adored, the earth she honored, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness and integrity.
