Karen's obituary

On Wednesday, March 4, 2020, Karen Elizabeth DiSavino, loving mother of 7 and friend to all, passed away at the age of 48. Karen was born April 5, 1971 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Howard DiSavino Sr. and Karen Agnes DiSavino. She grew up in Chesterfield, Virginia where she graduated from Lloyd C Bird High School. Karen was widely known for her athleticism. She especially excelled in track & field and basketball. She was voted Most Athletic in her graduating class.

Karen earned her nursing degree from John Tyler Community College while pregnant with her 4th child. She was a dedicated nurse, and she touched the lives of countless patients through her work. She formed a personal relationship with each person she cared for.

She was a hardworking and devoted mother. She is survived by all 7 of her children, of which she was the most proud- Bradley (Kandi) Chamberlain, Adam (Sydney) Chamberlain, Sarah (Vernon) Vaughan, Jonathan Chamberlain, Rachel Hacker, Jessica Hacker, and Thomas Hacker. Karen was preceded in death by her mother, Karen Agnes DiSavino. She is survived by her father Howard DiSavino Sr., brother Howard DiSavino Jr., sister Martinah Smith, girlfriend Lisa Fletcher, best friend Vanessa Wright, and two grandchildren.

It was not uncommon for her children’s friends to call her “Momma Karen” because she treated everyone as her own. There was never a need that went unmet with Karen around. She would truly give the shirt off of her back to anyone in need, without a question. Karen did not know a stranger and she embraced everyone for who they are.

If you knew Karen you know, she adored Prince. She loved Reese’s, orange Starburst, and Coke- but only out of the can. She was her children’s biggest fan and a fierce, supportive friend. She was known for her quick wit and infectious smile. When she looked at you, she made you feel like the only person in the room. It was hard not to feel connected to Karen. She loved to play pool, go fishing, and show her Gay Pride. She is loved and will be missed by all who had the privilege to meet her.

A celebration of life party will be held on her birthday, Sunday April 5, 2020 at 12pm at R. Garland Dodd Park in Chesterfield, Virginia. Flowers or donations can be sent to 3006 Tanya Terrace, Midlothian, Virginia 23112.
