Karen's obituary
Karen Ann DeFaber (née Fuhrmann), aged 78, passed away on August 19, 2024, in Indian Land, SC. Born on June 3, 1946, in Buffalo, NY, Karen was a loving and cherished member of her community and a beacon of kindness and warmth to all who knew her.
Karen graduated from Farmingdale High School in 1964 and was deeply involved in her community and church, the Restoration Church of the Carolinas. She was well-known for her love of music, often singing in the church choir, and her home was a popular venue for her much-loved tea parties. An avid reader, Karen also enjoyed gardening, decorating her home, and collecting tea cups and antiques.
She leaves behind her devoted husband of 43 years, Ken, and her children, Todd VerHoeven (Dee), Chad VerHoeven (Liz), Kimberly Wall (Brian), and Ryan DeFaber (Lindsay). Karen was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren: Allie, Jacob, Nolan, Grayson, Kaitlyn, Harrison, Landon, and Emma. She is also survived by her sisters, Sondra Faivre (Jim) and Cheryl Starna (Val), along with numerous nieces and nephews. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Irving and Eleanor Fuhrmann, her brother, Paul Fuhrmann, and her beloved first husband, Herbert VerHoeven.
A memorial service will be held to honor Karen's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tunnels to Towers, an organization close to her heart. Karen's generous spirit and joyful demeanor will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
