Karen's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Karen "KoKo" Carey, who left us peacefully on May 4, 2024. Born on October 16, 1951, Karen was well known by loved ones for her loving heart, generosity, fun sense of humor, and her ability to navigate life with ease, wisdom, and acceptance.
She is survived by her cherishing husband, Lewis Carey, her devoted children, Rachel Saltz, Aaron (Vicki) Saltz, step-son Tim (Chris) Carey, and her loving brother, Warren (Vanessa) Holmes Jr. She also leaves behind her precious grandchildren, Lukas and Jess Saltz, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Karen was predeceased by her parents Kathleen and Warren Holmes Sr., her sister, Susan Cox, Brother-in-law Neville Cox and her step-son, Michael Carey.
Retiring in 2015 from Northern Illinois University, Karen had an unwavering faith and was an active attendee and volunteer in the audiovisual department at Reynolds United Methodist Church. Her memorial service will be held there on May 18, 2024, at 10:30 AM
A woman of many passions, Karen loved listening to music, from hymns such as Jesus loves me, to dancing to Old Time Rock and Roll. She enjoyed a wide variety of foods but they always tasted best when joined by friends and family. She enjoyed a variety of books, from The Bible to Harry Potter. She loved games like Cards, Dice, Dominoes, and Trivial Pursuit, again, best when joined by loved ones. She found her true joy in knitting and crocheting. Her legacy is a plethora of yarn, lovingly crafted, beautifully made, generously gifted works of art.
One of her greatest accomplishments was raising wonderful children with whom she was very proud.
Karen's personality embodied unconditional love. She will be missed more than she ever could’ve imagined. Her family and friends will forever remember her with love and admiration.
In lieu of flowers, funds are being raised for "Serenity Hospice and Home".
