Karen's obituary
Karen Irene Buss, 69, passed away on January 9, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, boundless generosity, and a spirit that couldn't be tamed by the hardest of circumstances.
Karen was a woman who truly lived. Whether she was diving in a shark tank, ziplining through the rainforest, horseback riding at a dude ranch, or swimming with the dolphins in paradise, she met the world with a "try anything once" attitude. But her greatest adventures weren't just the ones that took her into the sky; they were the ones she navigated at home with a heart that knew no limits.
A fiercely independent woman, Karen raised her daughter, Maria, as a single mother, providing a foundation of love and strength that never wavered. Later in life, she stepped into the role of a devoted caregiver for her own mother, always putting the needs of others above her own.
The last two years were a testament to Karen’s extraordinary bravery. After suffering a stroke last year and facing a battle with cancer this year, she showed the world what true grace looks like. She navigated her health struggles without a word of complaint, instead choosing to lead with humor, a silly smile, and a heart that continued to love wholeheartedly until the very end.
Karen is survived by her daughter and best friend, Maria Williams; her son-in-law, Joshua Williams who she adored as if he were her own; her "bonus kids", Alicia and Jacob Williams; her brother, John Buss; and her beloved cat, Missy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Virginia and Tony Buss, and her brothers, Mike, Ron, Tom, and Jimmy.
While the world is certainly dimmer without her, her family finds comfort knowing she is likely ziplining through the afterlife, free of pain and full of joy.
