Kalman was born on November 25, 1932 in Agyagosszergeny, Hungary. Kalman grew up as a farmer and served as a corporal in the Hungarian Army. He escaped after the 1956 Hungarian Revolution failed and settled in Milan, MI where he fell in love with his wife, Linda Baisch. He was a devout Catholic and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed visiting Holy Cross Hungarian Catholic Church in Delray as often as he could.

He loved working in his garden, growing a wide variety of vegetables such as peppers, tomatoes, corn, beets, green beans, radishes, grapes, gooseberries, and more. He was an avid reader and lover of history.

Kalman worked at the Ford Motor Company Rawsonville plant for 37 years until his retirement in 1998.

Kalman was a devoted husband of 61 years to Linda (Baisch). They have three children: Kim (Don) Finch, John (Suzanne) Nemeth, and KellyLin (Jackson) Tracy.

He was a brother to József Nemeth and brother-in-law to Marika Nemeth, Marian and the late Randall Baisch and the late Jerry & Margaret Baisch.

Kalman was the adored Nagypapa to grandchildren Megan (Blake), Matthew (Sarah), Evelyn, Savannah (Stuart), Jackson, Nolan, and Connor, as well as five great grandchildren. He was also a beloved uncle to several nephews and nieces.

Kalman was proceeded in death by his father Janos, mother Emilia, stepmother Anna, and brother Janos.

Memorial services will be determined at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Hungarian-American Cultural Center, 26257 Goddard Rd. Taylor, MI 48180.

Kalman absolutely loved and adored his wife Linda and was a devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He had a sly, subtle sense of humor, and enjoyed the simple things of life.

He made his Hungarian heritage larger than life for his family, creating so many memories of wonderful food, conversation, and stories. His children and grandchildren were so inspired, they all recently applied for and received Hungarian citizenship.
