Katie's obituary
We regretfully announce the passing of Ms. Kaitlyn "Katie" Scott, born on September 8, 2005, who passed away on January 18, 2024. Better known to friends and family as Katie, she will be deeply missed by her mother, Tanya Barclay ; her father, Todd Scott and his wife Lisa Scott, her stepfather, Doug Mckay and his wife Dorinda Mckay, her Oma, Ursula Barclay, and her Grandmother Doreen Scott.
In 2023, Katie embarked on a new adventure when she moved to North Vancouver, BC, Canada. She got herself enrolled in the grade 12 program and was so excited to get her diploma!.. that's all she could talk about was finishing high school. When talking to the principle he told me that she showed up at the school with no appointment because they took too long and told them "I have to get started in school now!.. nobody is calling me back"... he thought that was so funny because she was determined !. She also got a job as a cashier at Shoppers Drug Mart and was so proud of having a job, making her own money and paying her way. I loved watching how she was with people.. so friendly and kind.. she was everything I hoped she would be. As for favorite foods, she enjoyed Gyoza, Chicken Nuggets, Big Mac, Pho, and her Mom's Tater Tot Hot Dish.. but anything Mcdonalds was a yes from her. Her favorite drinks were Root Beer, Ginger Beer, Sprite, Iced Tea, and Fireball which we will forever question "why that drink katiebear?"
Katie had an eclectic taste in music, enjoying everything from Rainbow Kitten Surprise to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and loved sharing new music with her Mom and her friends. She had a particular fondness for knee-slappers and anything that could possibly make her Mother shed a tear. She loved all the arts and dreamed of one day becoming a tattoo artist which I think she would have been amazing at. Katie had a tattoo gun at one point and enjoyed setting up and practicing her art on herself and her mother.
The world of television brought her joy, whether it was watching 'Big Mouth,' 'The Office,' 'The Simpsons,' or 'Family Guy.' Something was always playiing in the backround while she did her current art project. She was also an enthusiast of the German game Mensch Arge Dich Nich and would pull it out when Oma was around especially. Katie's hobbies included creating art, exploring Netflix series, hanging out at the mall, embarking on road trips, and immersing herself in music.
A lover of the outdoors, Katie enjoyed bike riding, walking, and exploring nature. She had a particular fondness for the colors green and blue. Katie loved her friends deeply and would talk about them all the time to her Mom. She had a sister in Charlie Somers and they really made sure to create memories together being "typical teens", but through the ups and down Charlie and Katie were sisters blood or not. Katie was a compassionate individual, devoting her time and energy to the causes she deeply cared about, including animals, her family, the elderly, and children.
Hawaii held a special place in her heart as her favorite vacation spot, where she had once visited with her father. Known for her bubbly, funny, and crazy personality, Katie was full of life. She gravitated towards comedies and true crime movies, and had a soft spot for The Ice Caves in Fish Creek Park and Black Diamond.
Her mantra was 'live life to the fullest and say yes to having fun.' In her short life, she achieved a remarkable accomplishment of making it on her own in Vancouver. She leaves behind a vibrant legacy of love, kindness, and acceptance. As described by her mother, "She was my best friend and daughter, and life will never be the same without her."
