Justine's obituary
On Tuesday, the 24th of September 2024, Justine Marie Furbeck, beloved daughter and sister, passed away at age thirty-three in Chicago, Illinois. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English literature with a minor in Anthropology at Miami University of Ohio in 2013. There she was a consultant in the writing center and became president of the activist group Pro-Choice Miami. After graduating she was a grant writer for The University Church community garden in Toledo, Ohio through AmeriCorps VISTA for several years, then moved to Chicago to work for Williams Sonoma.
Justine was tenacious from her beginning, surviving complications after birth to become an intelligent, curious, commanding young woman who was always true to herself. She was firm and exacting, and easily frustrated, but she was also understanding in her judgment, loyal to those she loved, and deeply compassionate for humanity as a whole.
Justine was an insatiable reader, enjoying fiction and non-fiction alike. She especially loved reading about powerful, complex women from around the world. She emulated their characteristics of intelligence, strength, and elegance, and held herself to high standards. Yet, much like the captivating women she admired in books, she was also charming and knew how to have a great time. Her competitive nature and quick wit enriched countless family game nights and fostered lively discussions.
She is survived by her two brothers, two sisters, and four parents, who will carry cherished memories of her in their hearts always.**A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, October 29th - Memorial Service from 3-4 and then Visitation hours from 4-8 pm at Toledo Metroparks Farmhouse at Wildwood East Entrance 4830 Central Avenue Ottawa Hills, 43615
