Justin's obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our son Justin Bodhi Steigmeier of Yorktown Heights, New York who passed away suddenly on December 19, 2023. Born June 30, 2008 in Sleepy Hollow New York he was the only child of Melanie Ryan and Andrew Steigmeier. He was the grandson of Andrew C. Steigmeier, Carolyn Steigmeier, Susan Katz, Peter Katz, the late Donna Steigmeier and Patrick Ryan. He had many aunts and uncles and cousins who loved him dearly.

Justin was a sophomore in high school and was a homeschooler for several years and previously attended Our Montessori School in Yorktown Heights. Justin was a student at W.S. Jeung Taekwondo for 8 years achieving the rank of Second Degree Blackbelt. He became an Assistant Instructor and staff member teaching along side Master Philip Jeung. He was a member of the Demonstration Team and was a 2x Gold medalist in Poomsae and a Silver medalist in Sparring at the New York State Taekwondo Championships in 2019 and 2023. In 2019 Justin travelled to South Korea to train at Kukkiwon, the World Taekwondo Headquarters as well as Taekwondowon in Muju and his Grandmaster's school Yong In University. In 2023 Justin was awarded the President's Gold Volunteer Service Award and letter from the White House signed by the President of the United States for his 100 hours of volunteer service and commitment to teaching Taekwondo.

Justin was a member of the Boy Scouts of America in Troop 238 of Shrub Oak, New York. Justin was a Patrol Leader and Eagle Scout Candidate. He had earned 21 merit badges, several awards and had dozens of hours as a volunteer serving his community.

For several years Justin attended 4 Elements Earth Education in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. Most recently he was involved in the Teen Leadership Program where he had fun running free and practicing the ancient arts of tracking, wilderness survival and natural awareness.

Justin was known for his quiet and humble nature, sense of humor, sharp intellect, and maturity beyond his years. He was a beloved son and a loyal friend. Justin will remain forever in our hearts and minds, and continue to shine his light upon us.

We welcome those who knew and loved Justin to join us in a celebration of his beautiful life on Monday January 15, 2023 from 10:30am to 4:00pm at the Garrison Institute, 14 Mary's Way, Route 9D Garrison, New York 10524.
