Justin's obituary

Justin "Junebug, Jr" Sargent, Jr, 38 years old, of Hopewell, VA, passed away unexpectedly on November 22, 2023, following a brief battle with Glioblastoma. He underwent brain surgery, but sadly he passed very suddenly prior to beginning further aggressive treatment. His life was surrendered to the Lord surrounded and embraced by his immediate family who are devastated by their loss.

Justin was born on January 15, 1985 in Norfolk, VA to parents Justin B. Sargent, Sr and Deborah Kent Sargent. He spent the majority of his life in Hopewell, VA which is where he considered his home.  Justin completed his education at Hopewell High School. He then became an ASE certified master mechanic, he was not only the best, but very well known for his work all around. He was adored by family, friends, clients, and strangers alike. He never knew a stranger, his social personality was a magnet to all. He was very proud of his work and always said there was "No job too small nor too big" he could do it all. His work sold itself and spread by word of mouth never requiring any type of advertising. He was devoted to perfecting every job, saving people money, and always being available and convenient. He began his career at the young age of 13, sweeping floors at Whelans Automotive Center in Petersburg, VA.  He was a quick, hands-on learner and overtime he was taught by the shop family everything he needed to know and build on. He  worked for and attributed everything he knew as well as the compassionate, loving, and attentive husband and father he was to the "Old Man," Jim Whelan the original owner and his son "Bubba" Whelan the current owner because they so freely took him under their wings and patiently took time to mold and strengthen his career/character for over 20 years of employment.

Justin lost his bestfriend when he was 17 years old. Sadly, he found his dad confused, flew to the best hospital around, but unfortunately there was nothing more to be done given the situation. Although it has been 20 years since his passing he felt the loss of his dad, idol, and friend as painfully as the day in which he lost him. He spoke often of his love for him, his longing to know that he was in a better place, and faith that they would someday be reunited as the duo they once were. He believed in the Lord God, called himself a christian, and both saw, felt, and understood that God was everything. He spoke of how important his fathers opionion of him had always been and I assured him that his dad would only shed tears of pride seeing the man, husband, and father he had grown to be.

Justin spoke always of being blessed to have had the chance to find and marry the love of his life, Laura. They were friends in high school, went separate ways after and reconnected in 2010 (10 yrs later) and felt that God had directed their paths to reconnect at the right times in their lives. He was a loving, attentive, and caring husband. He often would just stop everything that was happening to serenade his wife no matter who was around, pull her close for a slow dance while she was cooking dinner with all the tiny eyes focused, and felt that his job was to guide his children (especially his sons) to be the best husband and man they could be.

About a year ago he received the very best gift of his life, he finally met his first grandson Kannon. He was so very excited when he found out that his eldest son was going to be a father, he spoke constantly of what he would look like, what he would teach him as he grew, and what he would be called. Kannon was born January 11, 2022 sadly he was off by four days from sharing his "Pop's" birthday the 15th. Justin immediately soaked up every second he had with his sweet little "Chicken-wing" as he is called. The night before he passed away he snuggled with Kannon in the bed watching television with a smile on his sweet face, so very happy to be "Pop."
