Michael ...
What I found most endearing about Karl was his childlike enthusiasm and easy way.  Smart but happy.  It was sad to hear of his departure.

I will miss Karl greatly.  I can hear in my mind the sound of his laughter and the sound of his voice as he told stories, explained some new concept that caught his curiosity - of which there were many - and can see the expressions on his face.  He had a delightful smile, and there was a look of kindness and amusement in his eyes that always made me enjoy his company.

I appreciate the uniqueness of both Nina and Karl that allowed their deep caring of each other and their love for their daughter Hannah to transcend expectations on what love and family should look like.  All three of them are truly a family of love and kindness and tolerance, and I treasure that about them.

I remember when Nina and I were roommates and she started dating Karl.  I definitely thought he was handsome and hot!  Little did I know at the time how much he would be such an important and valued part of my LA family for years to come.  I have deeply appreciated his presence in my life and I will miss him.

His love of life was contagious.  Jurgen shared heartwarming stories of his love for animals and his family.  It was so much fun to discuss new ideas and technology with him.
You put it perfectly: Karl was "beautifully unique." So open, so ready to laugh and to learn, so talented in so many ways. He is missed keenly by all who knew him, with his beloved family first in his and our hearts.
