JUNIE's obituary

The life of Junie Brown-Harris

Sunrise April 30, 1952 - Sunset July 29, 2022

Psalms 90:10 “The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.”

Junie Brown-Harris was known to many as Mrs. Harris, Junie, Sister Junie, Mum Junie, Aunty Junie, Mummy, Mom, Grandma, Grandmama and Olive (childhood).

Junie came into this world on April 30, 1952 to Mr. Ucel and Mrs. Mary Brown who both predeceased her. Junie was the second daughter for Ucel and Mary. She was the third daughter out of his thirteen children. Her 13 siblings are Johnna, Ruel, Gary, Jennifer, Sonia, Rona, Marva and Audrey; (Kenrick, Lewie, Stanley, Louise and Ruby predeceased her).

Junie attended the ‘Exchange All Age School’ from ages 5-15 years. Growing up, Sister Junie's life ambition was to become a Nurse/Teacher but that never path did not take place. She went on to learn how to sew with Ms. Amy and Ms. Taylor (our adopted Sister now deceased).

As a young lady, Sister Junie landed her first job as a seamstress with Mrs. Adocia Paisley, designing/creating dresses and embroidery. She then worked with Ms. Veronica Marks and Ms. Cher at all of their locations in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, for many years. She did a short stint with Ms. Lyn at Ocean Village then branched out on her own. She loved sewing. It became her life’s passion. Before migrating to the United States, she operated her business from home with Back to School being her busiest time of the year, as an entrepreneur. Many of her customers became lifelong friends till this day. Once she arrived in the United States, her passion for sewing followed her; she continued to work as a seamstress. Sister Junie was a trooper; a real one. She referred to herself as a soldier for working effortlessly with her clients.

Sister Junie met and fell In love with Winston Harris also known as Mr. Monty.

This union brought forth seven children: Howard (Howie), Carellan (Sundy) Glenworth (Glen), Mary-An (San San), O’Lanza (Lanza / Weewaa), Farian (Naughton) and Gary (Serrie).

In addition to her seven children, Sister Junie was blessed with ten grandchildren; Charlesworth Jr. (CJ), La-Daniel (Cece), Christoph, Raheem, Chad, DeShawn, Destiny, ZaynaShay, Amhara and Gary Jr. (GJ). She was also blessed with her daughter in law, Michelle (Glen's wife).

Sister Junie was a woman of God. She loved her God and didn’t like to miss church or church trips. Junie was jovial, caring, loving but strict. She spoke with her eyes. The glare she gave was known as the “BROWN LOOK “. If you got the look, you knew for sure you’d stepped out of line. She also had an infectious laugh and a captivating smile.

Junie was very direct (in a loving way) and did not beat around the bush. She didn’t know what it meant to hold back. She spoke her truth undiluted and unapologetically. She was a lover of sports, mainly Cricket and Football (soccer). In her early days, Junie was an avid supporter of her community soccer team and another soccer team, Black Star. Whilst living in Jamaica, she’d take her transistor radio to Church to listen to the West Indies match. She was well known for sneaking out of service to check on a match. She would hurry to Ball Ground to watch a match after church. Sometimes she’d miss service if a match was being played away from home. She loved her cricket and supported her boys, Howie and Lanza, when they played the game. Once she arrived in the states, she fell in love with another sport; baseball. The Yankees became her favorite team. In addition to baseball, she learned to love American Football and Basketball, as her grandchildren were talented players.

Junie proved to us all how strong her faith was in God and how much she was willing to fight to live a life for Christ. She had surgery on her veins in 2019. Little did we know this would be a ‘sturrup things’ (many events to follow). Her body was taken over by Melanoma in December, 2021, but that didn’t stop her. Sister Junie went through a period of treatment which was handled with grace, much like a soldier. She lived longer than doctors had initially anticipated.

She traveled back and forth to Jamaica to be with her family and friends whenever the opportunity arrived. In May, 2022, while visiting Jamaica, she informed her family and friends that it would be her final trip back home. Many didn’t believe her, but she knew.

Junie lived her life gracefully, blessed and unapologetically in faith. She had very good times and left us precious memories. She enjoyed herself immensely and she didn’t let the illness hold her down at all; she fought, she prayed, she sang, she encouraged, she pondered and she smiled (even while in pain). She was loved and she knew that solidly.

Sister Junie loved and cared for her immediate and extended family members. She would inquire about them without hesitation. Her husband Mr. Monty, Sundy, Destiny (her granddaughter and little helper/protector), her family, her Beth Rapha Church family and friends ensured that she kept her appointments, took her medication and did all the necessary requirements to support her along the journey.

Her mortal body was taken over by the dreaded disease Melanoma, but her immortal body remained grounded in Christ. Sister Junie lived for another 3 years before succumbing to her illness. She knew we loved her but wanted us to let her go to be with her Heavenly Father as the pain became too unbearable for her.

Sister Junie was a wife, a mom, a grandma, an aunt, a sister, and a friend. As we say goodnight to her mortal body, we wait until we’ll see her again in Christ Jesus.

On Friday July 29, 2022, at 6:50 p.m. (EST) our dear Junie took her last breath as she slept eternally and left to be with the Lord. She is at peace with her Lord and Savior. She declared in one of her last statements, “It is well with my soul.”

You leave a Godly legacy that we will continue to follow as we too live for Christ.

Junie Brown-Harris * Change of Address

I’ve changed my address to Heaven

I’ve crossed the Great Divide.

I know there’s no sorrow or crying,

Because I’ve reached the other side.

I am so happy to be here,

for the Lord Himself I see.

I’ve changed my address to Heaven,

I bid this world goodbye.

I now live forever with Jesus in

my new home in the sky.

I have no burdens or heartaches

And from tears I am now free.

I’ve changed my address to Heaven,

I’m safe forevermore.

For the Lord built a mansion

And my name is on the door.

You can find us walking together,

For where He is, I’ll always be.

I’ve changed my address to Heaven,

If you die in Christ

That’s the place you’ll find me.

My New Address
