Junella's obituary

Our beloved June passed peacefully from this earthly life to return to her Heavenly home Friday, March 25th, 2022.

Junella Taulbee Sumner was born November 6th, 1924 on the family farm in Taulbee Kentucky, Frozen Creek, Breathitt County to Samuel Nathan and Molly Carolyn Fletcher Taulbee.

June was a spitfire. She was opinionated and shared those opinions even when not wanted. She gave advice but never took it. She worried about others but not herself. She was very particular about the way she wanted things done and would let you know if you weren't doing it to her specifications. She had a sharp tongue and could be rough, but her loyalty knew no bounds. She was honest in her dealings and if she gave her word it would happen.

If you knew June, you knew how stubborn she could be. She was bound and determined to live out her life in her Florida home and except for the last week of her 97 years and with the help of friends and caretakers, she was able to achieve her goal. Her last week on earth was spent under the care of Largo Medical Center and then Suncoast Hospice Care Center where she (and members of her family) received excellent care.

June attended Zion Hill Mission School, a one room school house, in Breathitt County. She and her sister Eloise enjoyed being members of 4-H where they gained leadership experience, work values and many more life skills. June moved to Ohio in 1941 living with the Risner's and graduating from Washington High School in Scioto County School District in 1942.

After High School June, her sister Shirley and their friend Mabel Terrill, attended a 3 month program at Vancleeve Community college to obtain their teaching degrees; June finished her degree but never taught school.

June married Marvin Adair Sumner October 3rd, 1951 and together they had Richard Marvin Sumner and Marvin adopted her 2 children Dwight Gary Taulbee Sumner and Billie Sue Taulbee Sumner Middleton Pedersen. June had 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren of whom she loved very much and was extremely proud of.

In 1983 June moved from California to Florida to help her sister, Shirley, care for their mother, Carolyn.

June was a member of the 1st Christian church in seminole Florida where she served in many capacities.

June was a member of the Bardmoor social club and enjoyed the friendships she made and the social activities. June had lived many places throughout her life. A few places were, Kentucky, Ohio, Arkansas, Texas, Tennessee, California and Florida.

June took a job caring for Dr. Mandel, Karen, Michael, Mindy, and Lauren Sher whom she considered an addition to her family.

June's siblings:

(1st) Herschel married Mabel Terrill and had Jerry (Gail), Bill (Stephanie), and Don (Nancy).

(2nd) Eloise married Herschel Halsey and had Joe Grey (Shelia), and Brenda (Berry Miller).
