Julie's obituary
Julie Ann Smith-Benge
December 24, 1967 – May 6, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Julie Ann Smith-Benge on May 6, 2025. Born on December 24, 1967, in Hamilton, Ohio, Julie was the cherished only child of Kenneth and Norma Smith.
Julie was a devoted mother to her three children—Amber, Erin, and Chris—and a loving grandmother to Natalie (Nico) Kelly, Carsen Riccobuano, Zoey, Leeland, and Kaylee Fackler. She was predeceased by her grandson, Payton Kelly, and mother, Norma Smith. She will be laid to rest beside them.
Julie’s life was defined by her generous heart and unwavering love for her family. She was always the first to lend a hand and never hesitated to put others before herself. She especially loved caring for others throughout the years through her work with IHSS (In-Home Supportive Services), where she made a meaningful impact in the lives of those she helped.
A heartwarming memory from Julie’s childhood reflected her deep compassion for all living things: At the age of 10, while walking home on a rainy day, Julie stopped by a pond and discovered a frog. She decided to bring him home and lovingly named him Freddy. Freddy took up residence in a birdbath stand in the backyard and quickly became part of the family. When the time came to move, Julie was heartbroken to leave him behind—so her mother went back, found Freddy, and brought him to their new home, where he continued to be lovingly cared for.
Julie’s selflessness, warmth, and deep devotion to those she cared about will be remembered by all who knew her. She leaves behind many friends and extended family members who loved her dearly and appreciated the countless ways she touched their lives.
She will be laid to rest at Mount Vernon Memorial Park in Fair Oaks, California, surrounded by a small, private gathering of family and close friends.
She will be forever missed and lovingly remembered.
