Julie's obituary

Julie Ann Rivera (nee Johnson), was proud to serve her country. At the age of 19, Julie enlisted in the U.S. Army. She valued this service highly as a Drill Sergeant, Military Police, and ultimately attained the rank of Sergeant First Class (SFC). Julie earned numerous achievement medals, service, commendations, ribbons, and badges and was recognized for her overseas service and expert marksmanship. In 1999, her Army career ended honorably due to health issues. Julie continued to serve the U.S. Army as a civilian for nineteen years at Ft. Stewart, Georgia as a Physical Security Specialist. Sadly, Julie passed away unexpectedly on June 13th, 2022 in Savannah, Georgia due to service-related health complications.

Julie was the daughter of Patricia (nee Heldman) and the late Sherrel C. Johnson, Jr. She was born in Miami but grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida. Later she attended the University of Florida and was an avid "Go Gators" fan.

Julie is survived by her son Kenneth (Maggie), mother Patricia, sisters Sheriese (Peter) and Karen, and brother John (Sherry). Her nieces Nicole (Nick), Rachel, Jessica, and Chelsea (Cody), nephews John (Cari Ann), Keith (Chelsey), Kyle, and Sam, and great-nephews James, Oliver, and Benjamin. Our beloved Julie will be forever remembered for saying “most awesome”, “Go Gators”, and “More More More”.  She loved her Ft. Stewart work family, her family, Jesus, dogs, and birds. She is beloved for her generous spirit and kind nature (unless she was working with Privates).

Please join Julie's family and friends in honoring her with a Military Service at the South Florida National Cemetery, on October 6, 2022, 6501 State Rd. 7 (441), Lake Worth, FL 33449. Please arrive 15-20 minutes prior to the service to join the procession. For directions and more information please contact Sheri via email: Artbysheri@aol.com.

A celebration of Julie’s life reception will be held at the Rossin Residence immediately following. For directions and more information about the reception, please RSVP to Karen via email: kj@manggear.com.
