Julie's obituary

Julie Albanese, age 56, died after an unexpected, hard-fought battle in the ICU on Saturday, February 7, 2026. She was surrounded by her beloved family in Detroit, Michigan.

Julie was an absolute light in the world. She was beautiful, kind, intelligent, funny, endlessly creative, and deeply caring. She lived with a true zest for life, always finding beauty in both people and the world around her. Those who knew her felt it instantly. Julie made spaces brighter and lives richer simply by being in them. The world is undeniably better because she was here.

A brilliant, self-taught decorative artist and muralist, Julie left her creative imprint throughout the community. Her work reflected not only her remarkable talent, but her generous spirit and unique way of seeing the world. She also accomplished one of her greatest achievements: raising four incredible children on her own, giving them strong foundations, unconditional love, and the confidence to become who they are today.

Julie is survived by her four children: Rachel Albanese, Nicholas Zalewski, Joseph Zalewski, and Johnathan Zalewski, as well as her cherished future daughters-in-law, Gillian Ruggeri and Gabrielle Henriksen, who were all the pride and joy of her life. She is also survived by her parents, Anthony and Barbara Albanese, and sisters, Nancy Zurawski (Mark) and Rebecca Richard (Josh) as well as 5 nieces and nephews, Scott Zurawski (Nicole), Kali Kleismit (Conner), Deanna Marcotte (Sam), Caden Richard and Evelyn Richard.

A memorial service will be on Monday, February 16, 2026 at Bell Creek Community Church. 30000 Five Mile Rd, Livonia, MI 48154

Private family visitation at 11:00 am

Service open to all at 11:45 am. Lunch to follow.

Julie’s light, love, and creativity will live on through her children, her art, and all the lives she touched.
