Background
The last thing my Dad ever asked of me was to take him home.
Home, for him, was Mount Hope Cemetery in New York, where his parents are buried. He lost his Dad when he was just 16 years old. And when his Mom passed in 2008, a part of him went with her. He’s carried that grief quietly ever since. Being laid to rest beside them was the one thing he held onto. And it’s the one big promise I made him before he passed.
We weren’t ready to lose him so soon. We thought we had more time. While his mother planned ahead and made sure he’d have a place next to her, the rest— the cost, the timing, the heartbreak, it hit us fast and hard. The funeral home quoted us $16,000 to make it all happen, and we just don’t have that kind of money. Not even close, not even with his life insurance policy.
We want to give my Dad a peaceful sendoff. We want to bring him home like he asked.
If you’re able to help, even a little, we’d be forever grateful. Every dollar will go directly to his funeral costs and bringing him back to New York, back to the ones he’s been missing for so long.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to help us honor this final, deeply personal wish.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me keep my promise to him. Contribute
