Personal note from The Taharas

Dearest family and friends of our beloved Warrior Goddess. It is with a very heavy heart that we provide this update.

As many of you may know, Julia’s cancer journey started in September of 2018.  After an early diagnosis (Stage 2) and chemotherapy pre/post total gastrectomy, we thought we were in the clear.  After 3 years of remission, she was diagnosed with an aggressive stage 4 stomach cancer in April 2022.

Julia had undergone chemotherapy and immunotherapy every other week starting in April 2022, often enduring nausea, vomiting, pain, malnutrition, and other grueling symptoms. Julia fought valiantly, fearlessly, bravely, and with every fiber of her being. After all of her best efforts, with the utmost positivity and brightest of lights, she took her last breath on June 15.

The last few years have tested our patience, brought us closer, and taken a heavy toll on us both mentally and physically. None of this is comparable to the struggles Julia endured every single day to ensure she was able to get “one more” of everything: one more birthday, one more holiday, one more memory.

Thank you to everyone who journeyed alongside her and our family to the very end. Each and every one of you kept her fighting spirit alive, and were often the spark she needed to get through each of her “one mores.” Though we are heavily grieving the loss of our Wife, Mother, BFF, and OUR INSPIRATION, we know you are too. So for that, we are so sorry for your loss as well. Thank you for your many visits, FaceTime sessions, phone calls, texts, gifts, flowers, cards, and overall support during her valiant fight. Please know that she loved and cared for each of you very deeply and we will be forever grateful for your unconditional love and support as you uplifted her through her toughest moments.

Please feel free to share your fondest memories and any and all photos you have of or with her by emailing jktmemorial@gmail.com, or uploading them on this site, as we would love to honor and cherish these memories together. Sending love (and her famous baked goods) your way 🤍
