Judy's obituary

Judith Ann "Judy" King Peters, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on March 15, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on November 17, 1951, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Patrick and Beverly King, Judy was the eldest of five siblings.

She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville, KY, and attended St. Louis University in St. Louis, where she was a member of the Billiken Belles dance team, fostering a lifelong love of dance.

Judy devoted her adult life to raising her four children: Erika Peters Sheets (Matt) of Leawood, KS, Carey Peters (Andrew Gardner) of Wilmette, IL, James Peters (Lucy) of Detroit, MI, and Michael Peters of Royal Oak, MI.

She was a proud and loving grandmother to David and Skylar Sheets, Evelyn Gardner, Ada, Jack, Anja, Naia, and Gabriel Peters, and her beloved granddaughter Cora Peters, who predeceased her.

Judy lived in Bloomfield Hills, MI, and her children attended St. Regis School, Marian High School, Brother Rice High School, and University of Detroit High School, where she developed treasured lifelong friendships with fellow parents.

Judy had many talents, including a rare gift for making a house a home, where the ordinary felt special and the special felt magical. She was a skilled and dedicated caretaker, not only for her children but also for her beloved mother Beverly in her later years.

She was a member at Orchard Lake Country Club, enjoying the lake, tennis, golf, and dinners and parties with friends and family.

After her children were grown, Judy found her way to her happiest place, Sarasota, Florida, a sun-drenched city she and her family had been returning to for nearly forty years. She embraced the warmth, the water, and the slower pace of a life well-earned.

Her greatest joy and proudest achievement was her family, and the love she poured into them will live on in all who were lucky enough to call her Mom or Grammy.

Judy is survived by her children, her grandchildren, and her sisters Sally King Blake and Nancy King Kuhns, and her brother Patrick James King. She was predeceased by her sister Susan King Jones.

The family would especially like to thank Judy’s son Michael, who cared for her in her final years, and the team of loving caretakers who supported her throughout her illness, headed by Mary Butler, and including Anja Peters, Zhaina Hussein, Yasmine Mehri, Nancy Jones, Theresa Wilk, Adrienne Agar, Rose Raspura, Zeena Marouf, Theresa Miller, and Nurse Amy, Nurse Gigi, and the Hospice of Michigan team.

A celebration of Judy’s life will be Saturday, May 30, with a remembrance gathering at 10:30am and a funeral mass at 11:00am, at St Regis Chapel, 3695 Lincoln Rd, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48301.

For those that wish, we ask that donations in her honor be made to an organization that holds a special place in Judy’s heart, The Catatonia Foundation, at www.thecatatoniafoundation.org.
