Judy's obituary

It is with profound sadness and love that her daughters Amber and Nicole announce the passing of Judith “Judy” Mary Forsyth (nee Power) peacefully at home in Dartmouth on January 4, 2022, at the age of 73 with her loving daughters at her side.

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on June 27, 1948, Judy was the daughter of the late Mary “Mickey” (nee Mercer) and (Joseph) Carl “Bun” Power.

Judy will be mourned by her two daughters; Amber Duffney and Nicole Matthews (George), and her brother Kevin Power (Pat). She was Nanny to her grandchildren, Isabella, Myles, Ryan (Raina), Danielle (Jacob), Annie (John), Emmet, Neal and Cooper - and many dear friends. Besides her parents, Judy is preceded in death by her brother Michael (Katya).

Amber cared for Judy at Amber's home assisted by her sister Nicole, after she received a diagnosis of terminal cancer. With only six weeks from her diagnosis to her passing, Judy's family is grateful to have been able to spend those final weeks with her at home where she was surrounded by and cared for by her loved ones.

We are very grateful for the help from friends, the VON and to Shannon and the staff with the Palliative Care Unit at HRM, whose encouragement was appreciated.

Judy was born and raised in Halifax, NS and other than living in Toronto, ON briefly, lived the rest of her life here. She worked from home as a Legal Transcriptionist from 1987 until her illness was discovered. As a child, Judy attended St Ignatius Catholic School from kindergarten until high school. There she became part of a close knit group of friends “the girls from St Ignatius”, who she remained close friends with her entire life.  Through Mount Saint Vincent High School, she continued to make friends and share her light and talents with the world.  Judy was a classically trained singer and pianist.  She was thrilled that each of her children and grandchildren received her musical genes!

Judy was a loving and fiercely loyal mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She also loved music and dancing, and was an extremely talented poet. Her last few days were spent listening to her favourite music with her two best friends and her daughters. Cremation has taken place under the care of Halifax Regional Crematorium, Dartmouth.

A private family service will be held on Wednesday, January 12th, 2022 at 2pm, by invitation only due to covid restrictions. All are welcome to join us online at:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/893…
