Judy's obituary

Judith Thomas passed away Sunday, April 28th, 2024 after complications from kidney stones. Judith Ellen Johnson was born December 11, 1939 to Nellie Johnson (neé Simmons) and Sophus Johnson in Moline, Illinois. From the very beginning, Judy charmed everyone with her wicked humor, sharp wit, and stunning beauty. After graduating from Moline High School, she received her degree in social work from Blackburn College. Recently graduated and filled with curiosity, she explored the UK and Europe after working as a caseworker in Cook County, Illinois. She returned home and married Ross Gordon "Tom" Thomas III on December 7, 1963, wearing an off-white three-piece wool knit suit. Judy and Tom then settled in Seattle, Washington, where their son Scott Christopher was born. They then moved back to St. Louis, Missouri, where Judy gave birth to their beautiful daughter, Jennifer Ellen. After moving the family to Colorado in 1984, Judy met one of her greatest loves; a gorgeous Arabian named Faddan Duranhan. She cherished all animals, especially her cats - her car's trunk had a constant supply of leashes, collars, and dog/cat treats for strays. Between taking trail rides with fellow horse people from her barn, hosting many social activities, and getting

together with co-workers from her long-time career at Sybase, she had many, many friends. Retirement freed her schedule filled with her loves; watercolor painting, water aerobics, horseback riding, animal justice, traveling, and spending time with her close friends and children, and spoiling her grandchildren. She LOVED being retired! After an accident left her wheel-chair bound in 2017, her humor and wit never left her. A word puzzle and thriller mystery novel fiend, Judy had a mind that was never quite satiated. Judy was pre-deceased by her husband, "Tom" Thomas, her parents, Nellie & Sophus Johnson, and her beloved horse, Faddan. She is survived by her sisters, Norma Bohanon and Donna Self, her children, Scott and Jennifer, and her grandchildren and their partners; Elijah (& Kirby), Hannah (& Laura), Josiah, and Isaiah Thomas, and Leah (& Andrea) Thomas-Finley. Services will be held Sunday, May 26th at 1:30 PM at Candelas Club at Peakview, 19864 W 64th Ave, Arvada, with all to be dressed brightly to celebrate the brilliant life of Judy Thomas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wild Horse Refuge Fund, or any non-profit supporting animal welfare and justice, as it was a cause close to Judy's heart.
