Judy and Jon Rick

I was lucky enough to know Judy all of my life but it was in these later years that I realized what an amazing woman was. She was gifted with a wonderful memory for people and was able to use that gift to reach out to others. She loved and cared for all the people she came in contact with. Whenever she was with you she would inquire about you and your family members all by name. In her 101 years she had many challenges that she met with grace and determination to do it the best that she could. I believe she did it very well!

I have so many wonderful memories of "Aunt Judy".

As a violinist in my youth, Aunt Judy blessed me with violin lessons when we were up in Onawa together. To this day I think about the excellence she requested from me to master scales far greater than what I had ever been asked to learn. This motivated me, gave me confidence in my ability and pride in my accomplishment.

As a younger person I would watch her playing in the West Coast Symphony well into "retirement age" and be in awe of her ability and accomplishment. She was a kind, intelligent and thoughtful person. I will always hold Aunt Judy as an example of how to lead a life well-lived.

When asked below my relationship to Judy Merrill I can only choose "family". Aunt Judy, Uncle Bob, Paul and Meghan have always been family in my eyes and we grieve for Gramma Judy and all those who passed before her.
