Judith's obituary

On Friday, November 15, 2019, Judith Louise Haas went home to be with her Lord and Savior, peacefully in her own home, holding the hand of her devoted husband and best friend. She was 78 years old.
Judy was born June 4, 1941 and grew up in Short Hills, New Jersey. She was the daughter of the late Augustus W. and Louise F. Smith.
In 1959 she met the love of her life, Ronnie, on a blind date, in Jacksonville, Florida while visiting relatives and where he was stationed in the Navy. After returning to her home in New Jersey, the two wrote letters and saw each other only occasionally when he was on leave. After 3 short months, they eloped. They were 18 and 19 years old and were married 60 years this past August. Together they had 2 daughters. They settled in Chester, New Jersey in 1965 and for many years, Judy dedicated her life to her kids as a stay-at-home mom. Not only did she love to swing with her kids on the backyard swing set, search for the perfect seashell at the Jersey shore, and sing in the car along to the radio, windows open on summer days, she was a steadfast wife and mother and a fierce protector of her family. In the earlier years, Judy was well known locally as a talented home baker, and everyone who knew her anticipated her annual Christmas cookie assortments that she gave to family and those she loved. She made holidays magical and loved giving gifts. She baked heart shaped hamburger buns for Valentine’s Day and created elaborate baskets at Easter.
After their youngest graduated from High School, they moved to Underhill, Vermont.
Over the years, she worked as a nurse’s aide in both The Converse Home and Willard Heights residential care homes, in Burlington, and was adored by the residents in her care as a kind, compassionate and loving friend. She had an intense love of animals and supported many animal foundations and was an avid gardener and lover of birds.
In 2010, they moved to Shippensburg, Pa. where they were active members at the Shippensburg Nazarene Church. In 2017 they relocated again to Mechanicsburg, Pa. to be closer to their youngest daughter and family.
Judy is survived by her lifetime sweetheart, Ronald Haas, of Mechanicsburg, Pa. and her two daughters, Lauryn Haas Kenyon and husband Bill of South Burlington, Vermont and Lisa Haas Purinton and husband David, of Mechanicsburg, Pa. and a brother, Augustus "Bud" Smith and wife Carole, of South Carolina, along with many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Ashley, Tyler, Rebekah, Noah and Emily in addition to her great-grandchildren Mackenzie, Madison, Tucker and AJ. At her request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local humane society in her memory.
