Juanito's obituary
We honor the life and legacy of Mr. Juanito Lim, a man of faith, intelligence, and resilience who entered this world on January 28, 1936, and parted from it on February 25, 2026. Johnny, John, or Juaning, depending on how one knew him, was known for his politeness, resourcefulness, and responsibility, Juanito always left a profound impression on those he encountered.
Born and raised with a strong Catholic faith, Juanito imparted valuable lessons of love, determination, and responsibility to all who knew him. His resourcefulness, sharp intellect, and sharp memory were a shining example to his family, friends, and community.
Despite his physical disability, Juanito was known for rising above it and achieving great success despite of it. After gaining approval from President John F. Kennedy of the United States, he was the first person in the Philippines to undergo groundbreaking hip replacement surgery with US Doctors in the early 1960’s.
Among Juanito's distinguished accomplishments was his courageous move to the United States from the Philippines in April of 1970, after marrying his bride, Zita "Nora" Pineda Start whom he met while they both worked for the Chrysler Auto Corporation. They honeymooned in Tokyo and flew straight to San Francisco, California; a decision that not only displayed his adventurous spirit but also showcased his relentless determination to provide a better life and legacy for his family. Additionally, he prided himself on earning a Master's degree in Engineering Management, a feat that required great dedication and tenacity: culminating with a 30 year career with the State of California’s Department of Social Services as a Disability Analyst and Manager until retirement in 2001.
Juanito's legacy is beautifully carried on by his devoted wife, Nora, a retiree of the City of San Francisco, children Jonathan Lim, Noel Lim, and Joanne Lim Eno, as well as nine adoring grandchildren and the dozens of nephews and nieces of his 4 brothers and 3 sisters residing in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento, and the Philippines, All remember him as a pillar of strength, a beacon of wisdom, and a man of faith. His absence is noticeably felt, not just within his family, but also in his cherished garden, where his beloved orchids continue to bloom, each petal a testament to his nurturing touch.
