Juanita's obituary
Juanita Avalonie Hamilton (née Douglas), affectionately known as “Mazie,” passed away peacefully on June 7, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 67 years old. Born in Connors, St. Catherine, Jamaica, she lived a life marked by faith, service, and extraordinary dedication to others.
A proud alumna of St. Catherine High School, Juanita later earned her Diploma in Teaching from Moneague Teachers’ College and her bachelor’s degree in education from the University of the West Indies. She served as a beloved educator for over 25 years, most notably at Tacius Golding High School, where she was a teacher, department head, dean, and mentor to many.
As a devoted worshipper, Juanita found her spiritual home in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She faithfully at Blue Hole SDA, and later at Red Ground SDA, Berea SDA, and most recently, Seacrest SDA Church in Florida. She was active in ministries including youth leadership, Sabbath School, choir direction, and community outreach.
Her spirit will be cherished and remembered by those she left behind including her daughters, La Verne and Ancia-Jay; her cherished grandson, Vladnik; her brother, Bromley; her sister, Joyce; and countless other relatives, students, colleagues, and church members whose lives she touched deeply.
Her legacy of compassion, wisdom, and unwavering faith will continue to shine in the lives she impacted.
