Joyce's obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joyce Ellen South Fox Settle, a force of life and a beacon of resilience and passion, on December 31, 2025. Born on March 14, 1964, Joyce carved an unforgettable path of creativity, vigor, and strength throughout her life.
She was the beloved mother to K.W. Johnston, Vickie Lynn Johnston, Paul Lee Johnston and Destiny Faith Johnston. Grandmother to Ashlyn, Gage, Spencer, Kainan and Max. Who she loved dearly. Others left to cherish is her mother Helen Thomas, sister Melissa Thomas, brother Eddie Thomas and many more loved ones here today and those who waited in heaven. Especially awaiting her arrival, her late husband Robert Keith Settle who passed June 16 2009.
Joyce's love for her children was only matched by her love for painting and her insatiable curiosity for knowledge one of which was herbology, crystals and astronomy.
Known for her sassy and strongly-willed personality. Her spirit and love for life led her to relocate from West Virginia to Wichita Falls, Texas.
Locally, Joyce was a familiar face at art galleries where she not only visited but also showcased her own art. Her artistic brilliance was recognized by many, and she held the distinct honor of being featured on the cover of the Wichita Falls Texas Living Magazine in 2022. She also hosted an art show of her own, leaving an impression on the local art scene. And artwork as far as Paris, France at the Louvre Museum. Not to forget the two books she has written. A woman of many talents.
There was something about Joyce that drew people in, her unwavering strength, and most importantly, her boundless love. Her life was a living testament to the power of dreaming and achieving with unwavering determination and resilience. She was loved by everyone and her spirit will continue to live on through her children, her art, and the lives she touched.
We bid Joyce farewell, may the country roads take her back home in heaven and see the mountains covered in snow again. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
"You're everywhere and nowhere at once. Your room full of familiar objects carefully placed. The perfume, red, your soul was a fire winter dissipated.
Hands cold like the snow on the mountains, skin like the moon. Fingers that once held are now cool and tinted shades of a cloud less sky.
Eyes to the heavens, body to the flowers. Pieces of art around the world, scattering fragments of who you are." ~F.S
