Joyce's obituary

Joyce M. Snitker, 85, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at her home in Independence, MO. She was born August 28, 1936 in Grain Valley, MO, the daughter of Melvin and Florence (Buck) Brown.

Joyce grew up in the Grain Valley, MO area and after marriage moved to Independence, MO. She had worked at La Petite Academy and had served as the Director. She had been a member of New Salem Baptist Church where she had been active in the choir.

She married Melvin K. Snitker on August 24, 1956, he passed away December 20, 1996. Survivors include her daughters, Denise Snitker-Snell and husband Steve, and Deborah M. Minnick-Witkowski and husband Randall, all of Independence, MO, her brother, John Brown and wife Audrey of Dallas, TX, her sister, Florence Long of Suwanee, GA, as well as her four grandchildren, Tina Humphries, Josh Sieg, Casey Witkowski and Dain Witkowski, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother, Melvin E. Brown, Jr.

Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road

Leavenworth, KS 66048. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Joyce’s memory are suggested to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
