Joyce's obituary
Joyce Carol Duna (Strand) Dowling Koropchak, 85, peacefully passed away on December 24, 2023, in Northfield, Minnesota surrounded by family.
Joyce was born on September 19, 1938, in Elk River, Minnesota, to her late parents Webster and Bernice (Herberg) Strand.
She attended Elk River Public Schools where she participated in band which led her to create life long friendships. Joyce was also a proud member of the Sherburne County 4H, where she showed her livestock at the Minnesota State Fair. After graduating in 1956 she pursued a higher education at Bethel College and the University of Minnesota.
Joyce's career was marked by her ownership and operation of the What-Knot Gift Shoppe in downtown Monticello, Minnesota. Her shoppe was well-known for its bridal registry dinnerware, eclectic Christmas nutcrackers, and pyramids. She took great pride in curating unique and special items for her customers.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Nikolai Koropchak, who will cherish the memories they created together. She also leaves behind her sister, Sharon (Jim) Gullickson, and her brother, Fred (Renae) Strand. In addition, Joyce is survived by her children: David Dowling, John (Teena) Dowling, and Julie (Scott) Ims. She was a proud grandmother to her grandchildren: Jacob, Ethan, Ellianna (Beau), Madison, and Kailyn. She’s proceeded in death by her former husband, William (Bill) Dowling.
Joyce will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her warm presence, culinary talents, and passion for quilting and music will forever be cherished. May her memory live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
