Joyce's obituary
The Lord called Joyce Elaine Fick home on July 5th, 2024. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, Joyce passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus surrounded by her loving family. While we grieve the loss of her vivacious presence here on Earth, we rejoice knowing that she lives eternally in Heaven where she is void of pain and suffering. Joyce enriched the lives of every person she met, and she never met a stranger - towards all, she shared her boundless love, her generous spirit, and her devotion to family and to God.
Joyce is remembered by many as a faithful servant of God through her involvement in the church - Calvary Assembly of God in Dunwoody, Georgia and Redmond Community Church in Redmond, Oregon. However, Joyce is remembered most for her embodiment as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. The matriarch of a growing family, she was immensely proud, and she found deep fulfillment in sharing her love of her family with all those with whom she came in contact, whether it was in hosting, cooking, or otherwise gathering every chance she could get.
Joyce was born on January 29, 1938 to the late Charles William and Thelma Elaine Rimell in Bellflower, California, and she spent her childhood in Southern California and Oregon. As a young child, Joyce contracted a serious illness and spent several years in and out of the hospital - at age 10, Joyce’s parents took her to a prayer meeting where the Lord healed her; this blessing became her life testimony and affirmed her faith in God. Joyce attended Canyonville Bible Academy in Canyonville, Oregon where she met her future husband, Ollie. Joyce spent their high school senior year planning their wedding, and she and Ollie were married three months after graduation in August 1956. With the same passion she put into her family, Joyce became an accomplished interior decorator who found her professional calling in helping others make their homes beautiful.
Joyce and Ollie welcomed a son (Doug) and a daughter (Darla), and they raised their family across California and Oregon before settling in Atlanta, Georgia in 1981. In 1989, Joyce and Ollie adopted a second daughter (Claudia) from San Nicolas, Argentina, and they saw their family expand as their children began families of their own. In 2002, Joyce and Ollie moved to Redmond, Oregon to enjoy retirement only to return to Atlanta in 2019 upon learning that they were soon-to-be great grandparents. Joyce enjoyed her final years spoiling her “babies”, and she was fortunate to meet her last two great grandchildren shortly before her passing.
A faithful and loving wife of 68 years who took meticulous care of her household, she is survived by her husband, Oliver ‘Ollie’ Fick of Gainesville, GA; her loving children - Doug and Loraine Fick of Atlanta, Georgia, Darla and Vince Edwards of Suwanee, Georgia, and Claudia and Scott Goode of Seattle, Washington; her cherished grandchildren - grandson Blake and Citlalli Edwards, granddaughter Emily and Chandler Hammond, and granddaughter Emma Fick and Fiancé Blake Cherney; and her beloved great-grandchildren - Tomas and Marelainea Edwards, and Ford, Charlie and Everett Hammond. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Thelma Rimell, and her brother Ross Rimell.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2024 in the Chapel of Memorial Park South Funeral Home in Flowery Branch, Georgia. Pastor Mike Ennis will officiate. The family will receive friends before the service between 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.. An interment will be held at a later date at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
