Joyce's obituary
In Memory of Joyce Novak Eberly
July 10, 1951- July 30, 2023
Joyce Joan Novak Eberly was born on July 10, 1951, to Joe and Annie Novak in San Angelo, Texas and passed away on July 30, 2023 in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Joyce lived most of her life in Houston. She was the youngest of four sisters and graduated from from Reagan High School. She happily devoted her life to her husband Dennis, whom she married at the age of 17, and their two daughters Cindy and Kristy. She was an avid volunteer and the biggest cheerleader throughout their girls upbringing. She instilled into her daughters the confidence that they could accomplish anything they set their minds to as well as the freedom to create their own path. She loved people and was a confidant to her friends, and a second mom to many - she was only a phone call away for those who needed advice, a ride, or a place to stay.
Joyce also took pride in her Czech heritage and enjoyed tracing back her ancestry roots through historical records and photos. She was a proud “Nana” to five grandchildren and she loved to share pictures and stories of their accomplishments to friends and neighbors.
She will be remembered as an exceptional bargain hunter, animal lover, antique collector, HGTV and weather channel watcher, worrywart, and chatterbox with an extraordinary memory. She was a homebody and her happy place was sitting on the porch of their lakefront home watching for eagles and other wildlife.
Joyce battled with ovarian cancer the last few years of her life, and although she was taken from us too soon, she said she had a life well lived. In passing, she took a piece of our hearts with her, and she will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband of almost 55 years, Dennis Eberly, and their daughters Cindy Scurlock (Billy) and Kristy Wall (Chuck). Grandchildren Allison and Brooke Kaczynski and Lauren, Carson and Kennedy Wall. The surviving extended family includes her sisters, Delores Schulte, Marcie Garza and Doraine Morgan. Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Novak and mother Anastazia (Annie) Kocich Novak.
