Joyce Yvonne Coffel Devenport

Joyce Yvonne Coffel Devenport, 87, of Garland, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, at a hospital in Dallas, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on May 29, 1938, in St. Louis, Missouri, Joyce was the daughter of Dessie Mildred Coffel, known as Mildred, who raised her as a single mother, and James Owen Coffel. Joyce grew up in the Dallas area, spending most of her life in Mesquite and Garland. A 1955 graduate of Pleasant Grove High School, she went on to work in a music store, law offices, and ultimately dedicated much of her career to managing the family business founded by her mother in 1969.
Joyce married the love of her life, James Dyas Devenport, and together they built a legacy centered on faith, family, and community. She was a devoted member of St. Philip’s United Methodist Church in Garland, where her deep commitment to God shaped the way she lived and cared for others.
Joyce’s family was her greatest joy. She is survived by her husband, James Dyas Devenport; sons James
Dennis Devenport and his life partner, Nichole Collins; Jeffrey Layne Devenport and his life partner, Karren Jones; son‐in‐law Johnny Craig Pierce; grandchildren Justin Pierce (Laura Ann), Jessica Pierce Hall (Parker), Jenna Pierce Callier (Logan), John Aaron Pierce (Kelsey), Jewles Devenport Johnson (Benjamin), and granddaughter‐in‐law Rebecca Price Devenport; great‐grandchildren Avery Devenport, James Devenport, Calla Devenport, Emily Pierce, Jack Pierce, Elizabeth Pierce, Pierce Hall, Olson Hall, Jonah Callier, Ezra Callier, Oliver Callier, Jordan Pierce, Ellington Pierce, John Pierce, and Jeremiah Johnson; her brother James Walter Coffel (Linda), and nephews Brad Coffel, Jason Coffel, Keith Coffel, and Greg Coffel.
In 2023 she was preceded in death by her grandson, James Nicholas Devenport; daughter‐in‐law, Lynda Winters Devenport; and her beloved daughter, Jennifer Devenport Pierce.
Friends and family will remember Joyce as caring, kind, compassionate, wise, and generous. She was the glue that held her family together, faithfully reminding everyone of birthdays and special occasions with the thoughtful texts they came to depend on. Her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on in all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Philip’s United Methodist Church, 3717 Broadway Blvd., Garland, Texas 75043. Lunch will follow in fellowship.
