Joyce's obituary

Joyce Ann Clippinger (née Serbousek), of Colbert, WA, passed away June 26, 2024, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

Joyce was born on October 1st, 1954 to Don and Evelyn Serbousek. She grew up on a cattle ranch outside of Chadron, Nebraska, and attended Cottonwood Creek School, a one room country schoolhouse. She moved into an apartment in Chadron with older sister Judy at age 13. She attended Chadron High School and Chadron State College where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics.

Following college, Joyce was an elementary school teacher for four years in Jeffrey City and Worland, Wyoming, sometimes braving -40°F weather. She then moved to Dallas to work as a software engineer for Texas Instruments. Joyce received her MBA in Finance at Southern Methodist University in 1984.

While living in Houston in 1988, she met her future husband Cliff at a 10k race. He knew on their first date he would marry her. She was pretty, intelligent, fun-loving, and wonderful company; the chance of a lifetime.

Joyce and Cliff married January 1991, and moved to Woodinville, WA, where they welcomed a daughter, Laurel, in 1992. Son Adam was born Christmas Day 1994 and died in May 1995. Daughter Talia came along in 1997. Joyce was a dedicated wife and mother, balancing a full time career as a software engineer with parenthood and extracurriculars. In 2017, Joyce and Cliff moved to their home in Colbert, WA. Joyce loved the mountain views and her flower and vegetable gardens.

After retiring in 2020, Joyce was very active with gardening, playing cards with her wonderful friends in Pinochle club, exercise classes at the YMCA, Garden Club, volunteering - notably with Matter of Balance, Meals on Wheels, and Bloomsday, as well as gleaning, mentoring and reading to school children, and working at the county fair. She enjoyed canning, knitting, skiing, hiking, camping, and was an avid, seasoned traveler. Joyce always kept her active mind engaged with her Kindle, puzzles, and games. She doted on her new grandson, Arthur, the light of her life.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents and son Adam. She is survived by her husband, daughters, grandson, siblings Judy and Gary, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
