Joyce's obituary
Joyce Ann Black, age 79, peacefully transitioned at her home on April 13, 2026, in Columbus,Ohio.
Joyce was born on December 2, 1946, i n Fort Valley, Georgia, to Benjamin Willis and Annie Mae Bloom. She was raised i n Batavia, New York, where she graduated from Batavia High School and was actively involved as a majorette and a member of the track team. Later, she relocated to Columbus, Ohio, where she built a meaningful life rooted in faith and family. Joyce dedicated many years of her professional career t o the State of Ohio Student Loan Commission.
A woman of deep and abiding faith, Joyce answered her calling to preach the Gospel. Her love for Christ led her to further her education at Ohio Christian University, where she earned her associate degree in Christian Studies. Through her ministry, she touched countless lives, offering wisdom, encouragement, and the Word of God.
Many knew her as Elder, Mother, or Sister Black - but t o her family, she was everything. Joyce's love extended far beyond titles. She was a nurturing and devoted mother not only to her own children, but to many who were blessed t o be embraced by her care. Whether through a home-cooked meal, a listening ear, or a heartfelt prayer, she gave selflessly. Her presence brought comfort, her words brought strength, and her faith brought light to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert S. Black, Jr.; her parents, Benjamin Willis and Annie Mae Bloom; her brothers, Willis Benjamin Bloom, Jr., James Bloom, and Albert Bloom; her grandparents, Creighton and Louise McCrary; and her son, Lee Black. Joyce leaves to cherish her memory her loving children: Sheila (Baxter) Rich, Angela (Brian) Farris, Monica Black, Symphony Black, Keisha Black, Tiffany Black, Robert Black II, Teron Redd, and Eric (Tomica) Black; her siblings, Richard (Tracy) Bloom, Leon Bloom, and Velma Bloom; her special friend, Henry Beason; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Joyce's legacy is one of unwavering faith, boundless love, and a life poured into others. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
