Background
Hi, my name is Daniel Ukpong, and it’s with a deep sadness that I share the recent and unexpected loss of my most beloved mother, Joy Ukpong. This is the biggest tragedy of my life. As the surviving son of my dear mother, please help me as I lay my beloved mother to rest. My mother was the light of my life; she was my everything.
My mother was born in Lagos, Nigeria, and migrated to the United States to create a better life and more opportunities for her children, whom she greatly cherished. She graduated from Coppin State University, Baltimore, MD, with a Bachelor of Science and from Morgan State University, Baltimore, MD, with a Doctorate in Social Work. My mother worked with the state of Maryland in several capacities as a social worker for over 20 years. Unfortunately, due to her sudden debilitating illness, she was forced to stop working. My mother was a blessing to everyone she ever came in contact with. Her spirit radiated joy, which is her name.
I took care of my mother for the past five years as she suffered terribly due to several medical conditions. Through it all, she remained beautiful on the inside and out despite living with constant pain and unexplained illnesses. I come to you now to ask for your help in honoring my mother as I take care of her one last time in planning her funeral and final resting place. As I begin to make arrangements and try to give my mother the loving farewell that she deserves, I am reaching out to our community for support. Any contributions will go toward funeral expenses as well as helping our family manage some of the unforeseen costs associated with this heartbreaking event. Your help is greatly appreciated, and may God bless you.
