Joy's obituary
Joy Ann Smith, passed away on July 9, 2024, in The Woodlands, Texas, at the age of 85. Born on March 4, 1939, in Jackson, Tennessee and raised in Helena, Arkansas before later residing in Tupelo and Madison Mississippi, as well as The Woodlands, Texas.
Joy began her artistic journey as a teenager. She was the proud owner of her art studio, The Joy Shoppe, in Tupelo, Mississippi, where she honed her craft and shared her passion with the community as an instructor. In 1983, she moved to Madison, Mississippi, and was one of a couple of people who assisted in a renown startup that became Gail Pittman Studios; where she continued to inspire those around her with her creativity and dedication to painting. At Gail Pittman Studios, Joy served as the Head Studio Artist, overseeing all paint production and artist training, until her retirement in 2005.
After her retirement and the passing of Clyde, her beloved husband of fifty years, Joy settled in The Woodlands, Texas, near family and friends.
Joy leaves behind a loving family, including her daughters, Cynthia Smith and Joy Baker (Monzell), both of The Woodlands, Texas; her sons, Joshua Tommy Smith (Dallas) and Chris Smith (Tampa); along with seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Joy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde T. Smith (2006); her daughter, Laura Kingston; her brother, Herald Vawter; and her sister, June Lewis.
A private family memorial service will be held, followed by burial, at Parkway Funeral Home & Cemetery in Madison, Mississippi. Parkway Funeral Home is assisting the family during this time.
Joy's life and legacy will be remembered fondly by all who knew her, for her strong faith in her Lord and Savior and as a kind and loving person.
