Jovani "J.R." Sanfemio, 65, of Morganton, North Carolina, passed away on August 03, 2025.

J.R. was born on October 21, 1959 to Jo Ann Andersen and Larry Roush in Gallipolis, Ohio. After graduating from Howe Military School in 1977 at the top of his class, he earned a degree in political science from University of Michigan in 1981.

J.R. spent many years savoring life in New Orleans, Louisiana, a city whose culture and eccentric lifestyle had a very special place in his heart. During this time he was a chef, sommelier, bartender and restaurant manager. He had three children: Leighanna Jo Hooper; Mira Petrone (Sanfemio); and Anthony Sanfemio.

He spent his time cheering on the Detroit Lions and Michigan Wolverines, caring for his rescue dog Satchmo, volunteering in his community, and had recently become a grandfather in 2022.

J.R. was predeceased by his mother and father, Jo Ann Andersen and Larry Rouche. He is survived by his sisters Stacy Anderson and Debra Burchette, and children Leighanna, Mira, and Anthony.
